In DC, there’s no romantic couple more iconic than Joker and Harley Quinn. Are they problematic? They sure are. Do people still love them? They sure do. After the immense success of the 2019 movie Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix, it was only a matter of time until we saw the development of his story — and on October 4, 2024 we’ll watch Arthur Fleck meet his new partner in crime, Lady Gaga’s Harley.
Joker: Folie A Deux Has Many Surprises In Store
Some fans argue that the original Joker (2019) was a finished story that didn’t need a Part 2. Whether true or not, this assessment is now irrelevant as Joker: Folie à Deux already has a release date and a star-studded cast to complement Todd Phillips’s so far impeccable director’s vision. But it’s not quite a usual movie.
Apparently, the second installment of Joker will be a musical, of all things! As much as people are cautious about this genre, it seems like a bold move, showing Arthur Fleck and his new lover slip into insanity, hand in hand, while singing about their heinous crimes. We’re almost expecting something along the lines of Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd set in Gotham, and it sounds surprisingly enticing.
Joker And Harley Are The Ultimate Psycho Valentines
To celebrate Valentine's Day, Todd Phillips posted three new pictures of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga on his Instagram. The three photos show Joker and Harley seemingly in love with each other. “Hoping your day is full of love,” the director wrote.
Fans were excited to see the new pictures, praising the fictional couple and demanding the director post a trailer as soon as possible. The more eagle-eyed fans noticed the hints at Joker and Harley’s true relationship in the photos, too.
“By [Harley’s] stupid goofy smile and [Joker’s] cold gaze, you can tell they will really explore how toxic and abusive their relationship was. Which is quite good. People need to stop glorifying them as a couple,” X (formerly Twitter) user Matheus_Perezz noted.
Overall, though some fans are scared by the musical part of the upcoming movie, most viewers are excited to finally get some glimpses of Joker: Folie à Deux.
