Johnny Depp is Back After Ambergate, Approved by Rihanna Herself
And you know what else is back? The scandalous stand-off between Johnny and Amber supporters.
Johnny Depp is apparently back and running, with TMZ reporting on Thursday that Rihanna herself has secured him a guest appearance in her Savage x Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show.
Depp will not be on the runway but rather film his part with a "cool chick vibe", as put by TMZ' sources. He will be the first man to have a spotlight segment in Rihanna's fashion show.
The announcement has predictably respawned the clash between Johnny fans and those who supported Amber Heard when the ex-spouses locked horns in a dramatic six-week-long legal battle. Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse, with him pushing back and pinning the label of an abuser on her.
Their court battle ended in favor of Johnny (technically), but Heard's fans still believe that he was the one to blame. Naturally, Depp's new gig has irked them to a point of accusing Rihanna of supporting an "abuser."
"What a disgusting person she is. Racism towards Asians, platforming assaulters, Islamophobia, Hinduphobia, capitalising on someone's death. The list goes on. We can leave her in the 2010s and move on," Twitter user dontwannashar3 said.
However, others hailed Rihanna for supporting Johnny after a tumultuous legal battle. Responding to Heard's angered fans, Depp stand argued that there was still no proof of Johnny actually abusing his wife.
"She [Rihanna] can have whoever she wants in her own show. Johnny Depp proved his innocence and I'm tired of y'all defending a woman who is a proven multiple time abuser," Twitter user sunflxwervolsix insisted.
No matter what people think about Depp's Savage x Fenty gig, it seems that his part has already been filmed and will air on Amazon Prime Video November 9. According to TMZ, both Rihanna and Depp are "super excited to make it happen."
Depp can be seen next in La Favorite, directed by Maïwenn Le Besco, as King Louis XV himself. The actor's comeback is slated to premiere in Europe sometime in 2023, with US release date still unknown. For Depp it will be the first movie in years: he hasn't appeared on screen since 2020.
