Joffrey Baratheon Spoiled Rhaenyra Death in Game of Thrones
However hard Targaryens are trying, Joffrey's still the most hated character ever.
No matter how much you hate Rhaenyra, Alicent, or any other character in House of the Dragon, it can hardly compare with the amount of disgust Game of Thrones fans had for Joffrey Baratheon — a despicable young king who was notorious for his cruelty and sadistic tendencies. Among his "achievements" are a wedding present for Sansa in the form of the heads of her relatives on spikes; constant abuse of his servants and even getting a Stark dog, Lady, killed for biting his arm when she was defending Arya.
But a certain scene from Game of Thrones hits different now that we have seen House of the Dragon and grew attached to new characters, no matter how "morally grey" they are. It turns out that Joffrey basically "spoiled" the events of House of the Dragon in season 3 episode 4 when he told Margaery that Rhaenyra Targaryen was murdered by her brother's dragon.
"It ate her, while her son watched," Joffrey revealed to the girl, giggling.
The way Joffrey mocked the death of Rhaenyra, who is now a fan favorite, made Game of Throne lovers hate the bastard king even more — even though the details of Rhaenyra's death were technically not a secret given that House of the Dragon is a prequel.
However, even though Joffrey kind of spoiled everything long before the prequel was even planned, some fans think there can still be room for changes.
"Unless the history & lore that Joffrey learned had been skewed some by time (history is written by the victors). I'm guessing they'll pry find a way to put in some twists so it's not exactly what we expect, but idk. It could end up being exactly what we expect & how Joffrey described it. I'm definitely not a fan of the quick time jump & actress change 5 episodes in (even if it was expected)." – u/Hawksfan5884
After all, Joffrey is one of the biggest Game of Thrones' villains, and it's only natural for him to spoil things before one can even realize it's a spoiler.
It's unclear whether House of the Dragon will meticulously follow the GoT legends about the Dance of the Dragons, or the books. It is also known whether season 1 will fully cover the events of the Dance, or it will be stretched into the second season.
Two episodes remain to be released until season 1 is officially wrapped. House of the Dragon is streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes arriving every Sunday. In order to watch the finale, you might want to tune in on October 23.
