Years later, JKR revealed that one of her most controversial decisions about the finale of Harry Potter was very wrong — and now, fans can’t help but feel frustrated.

Among the long list of things that fans find frustrating about the finale of Harry Potter, one stands out the most as an incredibly controversial topic: the romantic life of the main characters. While some Potterheads find the end result perfect, others argue that JKR messed it up badly — and year after year, these debates keep going.

Specifically, many fans are not fond of the idea of Harry and Ginny being together; it might sound like a conspiracy theory, but these are often the same people that consider Harry and Hermione to be the perfect power couple.

While the canon was set in stone many years ago, such mundane facts never prevented Potterheads from arguing.

And guess what? Seven years after the release of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling herself admitted that Hermione should’ve ended up with Harry and not Ron! And since then, no one’s been ever happy ever again.

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. <...> For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron. <...> Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not,” Rowling revealed to Wonderland.

This revelation had all fans bawling. Those who believed that the canon ending was great couldn’t believe in this betrayal — and those who had always said that Hermione and Harry were the only option couldn’t believe that it took JKR seven whole years to come to this realization, and the chance to fix it was long gone.

So basically, no one was happy about it, including J.K. Rowling herself; however, the Harry Potter fandom has one great power. It’s called “selectional memory and fan fiction,” and it’s been doing wonders for Potterheads for years now. Those who love certain pairings have a plethora of stories with them, and uncomfortable facts are simply forgotten.

Like that child that was cursed, the Hermione and Harry revelation was cast aside.

But what side are you on?
