Jensen Ackles Never Actually Auditioned for His Tracker Role
Turns out the actor can boast of having some really good friends.
Tracker ’s first season officially wrapped it all up last week, as its finale left a lot to be explored in the next installment, and chances are Supernatural ’s star Jensen Ackles will be back to the show once again. In season 1, the actor made an exciting and long-anticipated appearance as Colter Shaw’s estranged brother Russell whose storyline is surely not over yet.
Now that Ackles has seemingly cemented his character’s importance for everything that’s going to happen next, Tracker’s leading actor has given some sneak peeks into the production process, even revealing that getting Russell’s role was a somewhat easy thing for his co-star who just needed to free some space for it.
Following Tracker’s season 1 ending, the show’s main actor Justin Hartley reflected on that moment when the crew had decided to cast Jensen Ackles as his on-screen brother. Hartley stressed that he’d always wanted to work with Ackles, as they’d been good friends for quite a long time, but “the man is so damn busy” and was always on the other side of the planet every time Hartley had an idea for a collaborative project.
When it came time for the team to decide who to invite to play Russell, Hartley instantly knew the answer. According to the actor, he felt the role was indeed special, so he did make that phone call to Ackles, and, surprisingly, the latter was free to sign up for it.
Initially described as a cameo role, Russell will surely become a much bigger figure in the upcoming second season, as the season 1 finale didn’t make anything clear about his part in the death of the brothers’ father.
On top of that, Justin Hartley previously stated that the crew’s plans for the next season are indeed big, as Colter’s whole family is set to be brought back onboard, including Russell. The show thus leaves absolutely no doubt that it’s not yet the end of the Tracker’s story for Jensen Ackles.
Tracker season 2 will arrive at CBS this fall.
