Jason Statham’s Movie Got a Second Life on Streaming After Smashing Box Office This Year
The actor got his highest-rated film in nearly 10 years.
Summary:
- Jason Statham hasn’t changed his role style over the decades of his career, and this year marked one of the actor’s finest works that received acclaim from both critics and moviegoers.
- After being released in January this year, the film was later on dropped on the streaming platforms and has had yet another opportunity to thrive.
- Starring Josh Hutcherson as well, the film follows a powerful organization’s former operative who comes up with a plan of revenge for those who are responsible for his landlady’s death.
Whatever happens in the world and in the cinema in particular, Jason Statham will always stick to his tough guy type of roles, and this time it did work quite well for him. Earlier this year the actor starred in yet another action thriller The Beekeeper, and though the storyline doesn’t seem to be something revolutionarily new, the movie was an overall success receiving acclaim from both critics and viewers.
Having hit the cinemas back in January, The Beekeeper wasn’t quite forgotten after the end of its theatrical run, and now the film is once again having its best time on the global streaming.
According to the recent data, The Beekeeper was holding a solid position in the US charts, ending up the ninth most-watched project by the beginning of May.
Also starring Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons, The Beekeeper follows former “Beekeeper” operative Adam Clay who discover his warm-hearted landlady’s body as she commits suicide after becoming a victim of a phishing scam. Determined to find the fraudsters, Adam embarks on a full-scale revenge despite all the risks of his identity being revealed.
Upon its release in January, The Beekeeper was quick to become the first high-grossing movie of the year, garnering more than $150 million against the initial budget of $40 million. On top of that, the film can now boast of an impressive rating marking Jason Statham’s best result in almost 10 years.
The Beekeeper landed a relatively good score of 70% from the critics and a real wow number of 92% from the audience. Jason Statham’s previous projects weren’t able to reach something similar since his 2015 movie Spy was awarded with a 95% rating.
Though The Beekeeper’s storyline seems to be quite completed by the end of the film’s run, the movie’s overall success makes fans cherish an exciting hope for a start of a new promising franchise with a complex and compelling character being introduced.
Nothing about a potential sequel hasn’t been revealed yet, but some may still brighten up the whole expectation by rewatching The Beekeeper since it’s now fully available for streaming.
