James Gunn's Close Friend Gets Candid on Director's Plans For DCU
While James Gunn is making controversial decisions to shape the new DCU, his close friends is not exactly confident about the course of action the director chose.
As soon as James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, massive changes started happening: the new co-heads began getting rid of previous actors and casting new ones for the full relaunch of the DCU. This included some highly controversial quits, like that of Henry Cavill, that earned Gunn and Safran quite some backlash.
Still, the famous director insists that he has that grand vision of a new and better DC Universe, and the steps he’s taking are necessary to achieve it. Considering Gunn’s reputation, many fans choose to believe him; however, as it turns out, even in the director’s closest circle, not everyone is sure that he’s making the right decisions.
One of the Snyderverse’s producers, Charles Roven, is a close friend of James Gunn and his family. As he was recently speaking to THR, he was asked about his involvement with the “new regime” over at DC. His answer revealed more than that, though, as apparently, Roven is not too sure about his friend’s plan of action.
“Right now, they’re really rebooting everything, and it’s a little bit unclear to me exactly how finite their desire is to use or not use any DCEU actors in the same roles. So I’m not really sure, but at the moment, we’re not really having any discussions,” shared Charles Roven.
The producer admits that he has no idea just what Gunn plans on doing with the rest of the original cast or even whether firing the previous actors was a positive change or not. At the same time, Roven claims, while he’s great friends with the director and they see each other socially, they’re not exactly discussing business too much.
Considering Roven’s importance to DC, this could also mean that not as much progress is being made on the new DCU as it’s claimed: with the producer’s past involvement and friendship with Gunn, it would only make sense if he knew about it.
