James Bond Creator Reveals the Only Thing That Stopped Henry Cavill from Getting the Role (It's Ridiculous)
The real reason why we’ll never see Henry Cavill as Agent 007 is so bizarre we can’t even be mad anymore: it’s just a series of unfortunate circumstances at this point.
Cavill fans have been stuck in the eternal struggle of trying to push the agenda of Henry becoming the new James Bond and failing for years now. Even now, after the actor’s done some outstanding spy actions and proven himself to be a professional superspy, he won’t become the new Agent 007 despite Daniel Craig stepping down.
As you might remember, the masterminds of the franchise recently revealed that they couldn’t have Henry play the next Bond because he is too mature and famous now. That’s seemingly a valid reason…until you learn that Cavill auditioned for the previous Agent 007 series, too, and the reason for rejection was the exact opposite!
That’s right: instead of Daniel Craig, it could’ve been Henry Cavill to portray James Bond in the now-ended series of films. The young actor really impressed the director.
“[Henry] looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… Very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then,” Martin Campbell told Express UK.
So let’s summarize: back then, Henry Cavill was too young to play Bond; today, he’s too old for that. Martin Campbell realizes the irony of the situation, too.
“Henry’s 40, so by the time he’s done the third [movie], he’s going to be 50 and anything beyond that’s two, three years per Bond. He’s in good shape, Henry, he’s a good guy. He did very well in the audition, but ironically, he was too young,” the director said.
Well, we can’t even be mad at this point: this is truly nothing but an unfortunate turn of events. But there’s no time to be upset as even despite not becoming the new Agent 007, Henry Cavill did his fair share of spy movies…and will do even more considering that he’s now working with Apple TV Plus on Argylle, his very own James Bond franchise.
