J-Law Hates Her Oscars Humiliation...and the People Who Don't Believe It Was Genuine

Jennifer Lawrence started acting when she was a teenager, and after her ascent to worldwide fame after The Hunger Games, it was only a matter of time until this immensely talented actress would receive her first Oscar. After one false alarm — a nomination for her performance in 2010’s Winter’s Bone — J-Law finally got the award.

The actress won her very first Oscar in 2013, and it was for the leading role in Silver Linings Playbook. The first Academy Award is an event of tremendous importance for every actor: some, like Leonardo Dicaprio, can’t get theirs for decades! But even though Jennifer Lawrence got hers relatively quickly, it didn’t quite go to plan.

For Jennifer Lawrence, the night at the ceremony was going splendidly. The 22-year-old actress was having the time of her life, looking stunning in her sophisticated Dior Haute Couture dress, and awaiting the results. Soon, her name was called, and J-Law began making her way to the stage to make an appearance.

Unfortunately, the beautiful and complex gown she was wearing played a crooked trick on Jennifer: as she was going up the stairs to reach the stage, the hemline of the dress got in the way, and the actress tripped. She fell on the stairs before everyone’s eyes, and even though she immediately got up, the night was ruined.

This was a horrible way to receive her first Oscar, and J-Law later admitted that there were all variations of the F-word flying through her head at the moment. Jennifer was feeling so embarrassed that she couldn’t even say her speech after receiving the award: she just tried to joke that the audience was applauding her fall, not her win, and left.

“It was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to give a speech like that again, so it didn’t feel good for me not to have a speech,” shared Lawrence later.

Interestingly enough, the actress’s wrath didn’t just fall on the stairs she tripped on, but on the people who didn’t think her embarrassment was real, too. After Anderson Cooper claimed that the fall was staged, J-Law was furious — and she confronted the man.

“I saw [Anderson] on CNN three days [after the Oscars] saying, ‘Well, she obviously faked the fall.’ My friend told me a vein was bulging out of my eyes. <...> He apologized immediately and said he didn’t know and gave this wonderful apology. I was all fired up… He probably told everyone I was a psycho,” explained Jennifer.

If there is a lesson here, then it’s this one: don’t ever question Jennifer Lawrence’s humiliating accidents. The actress hates them all too much, and if you claim that she actually wanted them to happen, you’ll be the first to face J-Law’s wrath…and she can be really scary when she’s upset with people. Don’t be that people.
