Mark Hamill is officially done with the role of an iconic Jedi, although there are some nuances.

Luke Skywalker is undoubtedly one of, if not the most important character in all of Star Wars, having been a part of the franchise since his birth in 1977 and earning the love of millions of fans.

Mark Hamill has also become synonymous with the role, and although he has gone on to participate in many projects since then (voicing the Joker in several animated shows, movies, and video games, for example), he will always be remembered as the iconic Jedi who brought peace to the galaxy far, far away. At least until the prequels came along.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy has been criticized for many things, one of them being a total mishandling of the classic characters, including Luke.

And sadly, it now seems that his appearances there were indeed the last (on the big screen), as Hamill recently stated that he will not be reprising the role ever again.

Speaking with CBS News, the actor said that while "you never say never," he had his good times, but "that's enough."

According to Mark, he began to move on from the character after reading the script for Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, when he said, "Okay, well, that's it for me," as Luke died in that film and only appeared as a Force ghost in Episode IX.

The actor later reprised the role twice as a younger version of the character for the TV shows The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but now believes that if the character is to be revisited, the creators could "get an age-appropriate actor."

Fans are disappointed that this is officially the end of the line for Luke, as many of them are still not over how he and other characters were butchered in the sequels.

However, they hope that Mark will stand by his decision, as Lucasfilm may try to recruit him for the upcoming Rey movie, offering millions for a cameo appearance.

While his sequel-era appearances got a lot of backlash, his younger version in the TV shows got a lot of praise, as he was exactly the Luke fans expected to see, a wise and powerful warrior, not a grumpy, depressed old man.

And as Mark mentioned, the creators may try to cast another actor. Fans have already suggested Sebastian Stan because of his resemblance to the young Hamill, who even agreed with the fans' choice.

So who knows, maybe we will see more of Luke in the future, just looking a little different.
