Poor Jamie Dutton, when will he ever catch a break?

It's a question that fans of Yellowstone have been asking for the last couple of seasons. The character has exceeded expectations in many regards rising from an unknown bastard to the Attorney General of Montana.

Be that as it may, Jamie's got problems. He's never been fully accepted by the Duttons despite being adopted by John (Kevin Costner ) at a fairly young age.

He is the frequent target of his ruthless step-sister, Beth (Kelly Reilly), who has every intent on destroying him. Moreover, Jamie rarely gains the approval of his adopted father despite doing many things in Yellowstone to help preserve the ranch.

He's even committed serious felonies (like literal murder among others) for the "good" of the family.

For many Redditors, it qualifies Jamie (Wes Bentley) as the unluckiest character on TV as he is always trying to live up to other people's expectations while they for the most part don't give a damn about him.

Redditors agree that Jamie committed a serious crime when he murdered a reporter to disclose the truth regarding the Duttons.

However, it still does not justify the mistreatment. John is way too hard on Jamie while being soft on Beth. The point is valid considering John is notorious for coddling his only daughter.

Meanwhile, others were not as quick to defend Jamie. They agree that Jamie still deserves better than the cold shoulder he's often met with from family members.

Nevertheless, it doesn't change the fact that he is a known murderer and hypocrite, just like the rest of the Duttons. "Everyone feels bad… and treats him like the victim," one Redditor argued that Jamie deserves no remorse.

In the end, Jamie is often victimized because he's spineless. He has enough guts to kill someone and hide the body, but not confront the same people he so desperately tried to protect.

He has always suffered from poor self-esteem, which constantly makes him doubt his abilities. What's more, Jamie continues to get pushed around in season five by the latest nemesis on Yellowstone – Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri).

Unfortunately for him, Jamie lacks the ability to stand up for himself in a family full of dominant, difficult personalities. Thus, one could argue that Jamie is not only a coward but also no better than the rest of the Dutton clan.
