Is Tyler a Perfect Match for Garcia or Hiding a Dark Secret? Criminal Minds Fans Can't Decide
Could the writers be setting the Tyler/Penelope relationship up for Tyler to doublecross Garcia in the end?
Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1 is slowly coming to an end which frustrates many fans who will have to wait for another year for season 2 recently announced by Paramount+. The latest episodes, however, effectively distracted fans from a sense of sadness at the upcoming hiatus.
In episode 6, Penelope Garcia was finally paired with another character. But the beloved baby girl's new love interest left fans conflicted. In an anticipated plot twist that disappointed many Garvez (Garcia and Alvez) fans, Penelope kissed vigilante Tyler Green who had been helping the BAU to uncover Sicarius.
Since day one, the two characters had an interesting dynamic and palpable chemistry. And in the latest episode, the couple went all the way, thus acting out a good old enemies-to-lovers trope.
Despite Prentiss telling Garcia that, with Tyler being their main witness, their relationship could ruin the case against Sicarius, the couple couldn't help themselves when left alone in Garcia's apartment. They even got a hilarious mid-credits scene involving naked Tyler on the countertop, books covering private parts, and a brilliant "Nobody ever tells you how good nerds are in bed!" line.
Now, fans have mixed feelings about both the pairing and Garcia's decision to go against Emily's advice.
"On the one hand, I'm happy to see them find some happiness together. On the other hand, this will look very bad when they catch Sicarius and go to trial," one of the fans wrote in a Reddit discussion of the latest episode.
Besides jeopardizing the investigation, fans are worried the Tyler/Penelope romance could have a heartbreaking conclusion.
"I like him, the cat won me over, but I do feel there's something up with him. It seems too good to be true. A little too suspicious," a Redditor explained.
This fan is not alone in their feeling that something is off with Tyler and his relationship with Garcia. Some think that the whole love arc was too rushed and the writers could be setting it up for Tyler to doublecross Garcia in the end. This would certainly break Penelope's and many fans' hearts, as there are quite a number of viewers deeply rooting for Tyler/Garcia since minute one.
And Garvez fans still hope to see their dream pairing finally happen in season 2.
