Is There Still Hope For Arcane Season 2? Here's All You Need to Know
Two years feel like an eternity already.
The first season of Arcane was a well-deserved showstopper, as it conquered the hearts even of people who never even knew what League of Legends was. After the smashing success, season 2 was only a question of time.
However, now that the Arcane fandom is two years into the excruciating wait for the second chapter, it's almost like hope begins to fade. Is there still a chance for the 2021 hit to return triumphantly to Netflix?
Well, it's not like we have good news for you, but we don't have bad news either. Arcane creators have already confirmed that season 2 is on the table, and its release window has even been secured.
We should expect Arcane season 2 in the fourth quarter of 2024 (via Collider), which means it will not arrive before fall or winter of 2024.
It's a pretty long wait, but if you think about it, the creative team behind Arcane has plenty of challenges ahead. The first season enjoys a picture-perfect 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a no-less flattering 96% from the audience. The story has ended on a painful cliffhanger, and resolving it properly without downgrading the quality is a big task.
Why Is Arcane Season 2 Taking So Long?
Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent has already confirmed that the long wait is largely connected with the creators' desire to match the high bar set by the first season. With Arcane being confirmed to be part of the League of Legends canon, the upcoming second season will have to satisfy both the show's fans and the game's fans.
Besides, the production for the first season of Arcane was much longer than the second chapter takes. Arcane season 1 took 6 years to complete; in all fairness, fans are fortunate enough that the second season won't take just as much.
How Did Arcane Season 1 End?
Arcane tells the story of two sisters, Violet and Powder (a.k.a. Jinx), who find themselves on the opposing sides of a looming civil war between the utopian Piltover and its far less picturesque undercity, Zaun.
The entire first season was full of surprises and heart-wrenching twists, but the most dramatic one came in the finale, when Powder-turned-Jinx kills her father figure, Silco (who was the leader of a regime that pumped the undercity with drugs while — sort of — fighting for its relative independence from Piltover).
It's almost like Jinx sides with her estranged sister Vi, but oh, too soon. Instead of making peace with Vi and ensuring the conflict is de-escalated, Jinx makes sure everyone crosses the point of no return: she fires her rocket straight into the Council room of Piltover, where the Council, ironically, was voting for peace treaty with Zaun.
The second season will likely pick up where the first season ended, revealing the devastating consequences of Jinx's chaotic move, and who knows where the story goes then? All we can do at this point is wait with our fingers crossed.
