Is Namor a Villain in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?
No matter his affiliation, it seems he has already secured himself a lot of fans.
After the premiere of the new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, all eyes are on the newly-introduced characters and what the future may hold for them. One of such characters is Tenoch Huerta's Namor — the ruler of the watery realm named Talocan (an MCU take on Atlantis from the comics).
Many fans have presumed that Namor is going to be the movie's villain. However, Huerta himself has defended his character, arguing that such expectations are wrong.
Speaking with Empire ahead of the premiere, Huerta made it clear that fans have to be ready for changes.
"Latin-Americans are always the bad guys in Hollywood movies. And now we are the heroes – or an anti-hero, in this instance," he said.
He also added that his character is a mutant, just like he is in the comics. However, the MCU still changed Namor quite a lot, adjusting the character to the world of Talocan — and doing a great job in terms of delivering Mesoamerican representation, according to fans.
"So Namor's gone from Aztec/Mayan prince to feathered serpent. Respect to the writers in incorporating this. All those screaming "woke rubbish", this isn't the battle. Marvel abandoned a dumb lazy Atlantean myth premise like DC and really did their homework to bring Namor to life!" – @ThePharaohsCat
Now that Namor seems to not be the villain people might think he is, who is the bad guy? Apparently, this is something Marvel fans will have to find out later.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for November 11 release, finalizing Phase Four of the MCU and making a tribute to late Chadwick Boseman — the actor behind King T'Challa. Now that his character is out, the identity of his successor also remains to be disclosed.
