It's not like people didn't want a Pirates of the Caribbean movie with Robbie, but in this franchise, there is one true icon that is nearly impossible to replace.

It looks like the Pirates of the Caribbean movie spearheaded by Margot Robbie is no longer happening at Disney, as the actress has revealed herself in an interview with Indie Wire.

"We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would've been really cool, but I guess they don't want to do it," Robbie told the outlet.

With no official comments from Disney, fans have already started a twitterstorm, thinking that the killing of Robbie-led Pirates' movie might actually be a good sign for Johnny Depp.

Depp had received a black mark from Disney after his ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic abuse — only to receive a similar accusation in response. The dramatic six-week-long legal battle ended up with a ruling that largely favored Depp, so he is currently seen getting back to his career. In particular, he has recently secured a guest appearance in Rihanna's Fenty fashion show.

While some people felt sad because of Margot Robbie apparently getting dumped by Disney, others argued that it is for the best.

"The franchise truthfully belongs to one of the greatest character actors to ever walk this earth. Create something new, stop recycling content, and characters," Twitter user tee_time22 said.

Many people "would rather Depp get a chance to make a good one to make up for the last 2, now that he's probably in a much better place", even though they have no hate towards Robbie.

Others, however, argue that Margot was probably the last chance for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to survive. No matter what suggestions might follow from Disney after Robbie's interview, Depp has been clear that he had no intention to ever return to the steering wheel of the Black Pearl. His fans support him in this decision, insisting that Disney "doesn't deserve" him after the treatment the studio gave to him after Amber Heard launched her case.

"I doubt this means Depp will return. I think Disney was hoping Amber would win, Johnny would be proven an abuser and so any reboots would be welcomed without his presence. But now they know that people would likely just boycott the movie and it'd be a financial flop," Twitter user AthletesFoot89 suggested.

But there is at least one thing Disney could definitely do, according to fans.

"Great! So Disney finally started listening to their audience & realised that no one, absolutely NO ONE, wanted this. Maybe now they'll be able to go a little further & see that Johnny Depp IS 'Pirates'," Twitter user An_elf_pirate said, urging Disney to apologize to Depp.

After the news on the apparent cancellation of the Robbie-led movie emerged, #NoJohnnyNoPirates, as well as "Captain Jack Sparrow" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" skyrocketed to Twitter trends.

It's still unclear whether the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will continue and in what form. For Robbie, things are looking optimistic enough even without a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. She is starring in Babylon and Barbie, with both movies expected to come out later in 2022.
