Is it Racist to Dislike 'Obi-Wan Kenobi's Reva?
The inquisitor did not enjoy a lot of love from 'Star Wars' fans ever since the alleged 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' plot leaks emerged online.
Moses Ingram 's Reva has been targeted by a lot of outraged 'Star Wars ' fans who claim that she is stealing the spotlight from Obi-Wan Kenobi in a show that is actually titled in honor of the latter.
However, the wave of criticism was described by the official Star Wars account on Twitter as racist attacks against the actress and her character. Following an official statement from Star Wars that said Disney is "proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva's story to unfold".
Among those immediately rising to Ingram's defense was Ewan McGregor, the actor portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"If you're sending her bullying messages, you're no Star Wars fan in my mind," McGregor said in a video message via official Star Wars accounts.
However, those who are taking issue with Reva have vehemently denied being racist; instead, they assert it's the character and how her story develops that does not sit well with the critics.
Still, many people seem to be enjoying both the character and her story.
Some even suggested that Disney deliberately went with the controversial character to spark debates.
Moses herself said that, following the criticism, she feels like she has "to shut up and bear it, and [she's] not built like that."
According to the alleged plot leaks that emerged online earlier in the month, Reva is going to become a center character and undermine the storyline of Obi-Wan Kenobi by being the one to actually save Luke Skywalker. However, these leaks might as well not be connected with the actual plot of 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' whatsoever.
