Game of Thrones’ prequel has yet a lot to unveil before getting closer to Daenerys Targaryen.

Having arrived several years after Game of Thrones finale as the latter’s prequel, House of the Dragon puts its primary focus on House Targaryen without paying that much attention to other numerous houses across Westeros, yet the show still has a lot of potential for more seasons in the years to come.

With the feud between the Blacks and the Greens now being the entire series’ core, House of the Dragon will surely have no trouble going far beyond the life story of Rhaenyra and company, as George R.R. Martin’s book has already prepared lots of further mysterious plot lines.

Surprisingly enough, the show’s possible cover of those stories that so far haven’t reached House of the Dragon’s plot line yet may guarantee a pretty long run before it finally gets to Daenerys Targaryen’s appearance.

Potentially leaving some space for more prequels to come, House of the Dragon completely ignores Fire & Blood’s first part and goes directly to the second one. George R.R. Martin’s novel has a pretty much precise structure, with all the events covered in there divided by two different eras — BC or AC, which is Before Conquest or After Conquest.

This is a clear reference to Aegon the Conqueror and his major victories across Westeros almost all lands of which eventually knelt before the Targaryens’ leader.

The show itself picks the story up sometime near 112 AC where House Targaryen is still as powerful as ever, but things start heating up when Rhaenyra’s father Viserys I dies and the whole family is divided by the uncertainty of who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.

What House of the Dragon season 2 covers is The Dance of the Dragons, which takes place around 20 years after Viserys proclaiming Rhaenyra his heiress and sees the Targaryens clashing in their fight for ultimate power which, with no doubt, will be the end of everything for most of the family members.

Yet even after The Dance of the Dragons is over, there’s still a lot to talk about before the show eventually comes closer to what happens in Game of Thrones, but the latter’s major game players are at least born by now.

Around 261 AC, the Targaryens still cling to their Iron Thrones despite scarce chances to revive their dynasty, and Aerys II, aka the Mad King, is the one to rule before power is descended to his young daughter Daenerys.

Years will yet have to pass, with Jaime Lannister killing Aerys II and Robert Baratheon taking over the power thus securing House Lannister’s status in Westeros, before in 298 AC the torch is passed on to what Game of Thrones season 1 covers.

With simple calculations, it comes as something pretty clear that there are some 186 years that separate House of the Dragon from Game of Thrones, and that’s a promising discovery for those who are eager to see the prequel thriving for some more years to come.
