Beyond this season, it's unclear what the future holds for Blue Bloods. And that has the show's huge fan base worried.

CBS recently gave its viewers a charge by renewing a bunch of its popular procedurals, including NCIS, which will return for its 21st season, FBI, currently airing its 5th season, NCIS: Hawaii and CSI: Vegas, both renewed for Season 3.

While pleasing to casual viewers, the news came as a shock to Blue Bloods fans, who expected the beloved family-centered police procedural to be among the first to be renewed.

Surprised that there was no word on the next season of Blue Bloods, viewers took to social media to express their totally understandable confusion.

With its consistently high ratings, huge and growing fanbase, prime time slot, and broad demographic, the show has been a moneymaker for the network, and one would think that its renewal was guaranteed.

So what happened? Why are fans still waiting for any information on Season 14 of the beloved procedural? Should they be worried about cancellation?

According to Deadline, the time to worry has not yet come. The fan-favorite show about the blue-blooded Reagan family is currently in active negotiations about HOW to continue.

The IF is out of the question for now. Both the network and the show's cast and crew seem adamant that the show will be renewed, and that can only please fans who are not ready to say goodbye to the beloved procedural.

The only thing that could serve as a threat to the show's bright future is the proposed cuts to its budget.

As linear ratings continue to decline around the world, TV companies are being forced to cut costs on long-running shows as they get more and more expensive over time.

Rumor has it that CBS is pushing for some pretty big cuts, which caused the delay in the renewal, but negotiations have been moving in a positive direction, and the news on Season 14 could come out any day now.

Fans are sure that the only thing that could really end the show would be the exit of its main star, Tom Selleck. Fortunately, the iconic actor is not going anywhere just yet. As he recently told TV Insider, he will stay for at least two more seasons.

"I've got a mortgage. I'm game!" were his exact words.
