Do you think this guy would've been a better leader than Rick?

A lot of fans believe that Shane Walsh, being a natural-born leader, wouldn't have let half the deaths that happened under Rick's watch.

On the flip side, there are fans who think we shouldn't idolize Shane for being a psycho. Whichever side you lean towards, it's always fun to ponder on the "what if" scenarios.

First thing we need to understand is Shane’s survival automatically means Rick’s death. In season 2, Rick and Shane made their way into the forest where we find out that Shane had a plan to kill Rick. What if he succeeded?

Let’s assume that the rest of the group believes whatever story Shane comes up with after killing Rick. With Rick out of the picture, Shane would assume the role of the group's leader.

Known for his impulsive nature and a strong survival instinct, Shane would bring a more aggressive and pragmatic approach to their survival.

One of the most significant differences between Shane and Rick is their moral compass. Rick consistently tried to maintain a balance between preserving his humanity and adapting to the harsh realities of the post-apocalyptic world.

In contrast, Shane prioritizes survival at any cost, often making choices that challenge the remaining survivors' morality.

If the group under Shane's leadership gets to the prison, just like with Rick, there are multiple possibilities here.

For example, the war with the Governor could never happen. Instead, Shane would see the prospects of Woodbury and would happily make friends with the Governor to provide a safer place for his people, especially for Lori who was about to give birth.

In a place like Woodbury, Lori wouldn’t have had to die in the process.

Probably the most interesting part is how Shane would deal with such a threat like Negan. Well, on the one hand, he is very likely to get himself killed during the very first encounter with Negan.

But on the other hand, don’t you think that Shane would just fit perfectly as a member of The Saviours?

Shane is a survivor, and he would be totally okay with robbing and killing people (that’s what Negan’s group does) to ensure his safety and that of those he cares about.

One thing is clear, if Shane had made it through, the story would have taken a whole different turn.
