By giving viewers a glimpse of what's to come and building anticipation for the full cinematic experience, movie trailers tease viewers long before the film hits theaters. However, these trailers are also often filled with important scenes that will never actually make it into the final cut of the movie.
Here are some of the most iconic movie trailer shots that were left on the cutting room floor.
Back To The Future ( 1985)
There is a memorable scene in the Back To The Future trailer that didn't make it into the final cut of the movie. In this scene, Marty is asked, "How far are you going?" To which he cleverly replies, "About thirty years."
While this witty exchange didn't make it into the movie, it remains a charming and iconic moment preserved in the trailer, showcasing Marty McFly's charismatic humor and foreshadowing the movie's time-traveling adventure.
Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)
In the third installment of the famous found-footage franchise, directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman encouraged the actors to improvise, resulting in some compelling scenes that didn't quite fit the narrative.
To capitalize on these moments, they repurposed them for marketing purposes, and as a result, the trailer is filled with more than half of the content that didn't make it into the final cut. Scenes like the girls playing Bloody Mary, the knocking game, and the house being burned forever stayed in the trailer, keeping the mystery of the movie's plot and creating buzz.
Friday The 13th: Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
In the eighth installment of the iconic slasher franchise, Jason Voorhees leaves Crystal Lake for a killing spree in New York City. The film's title is somewhat misleading, however, as Jason's time in Manhattan is brief and occurs mostly at the end of the film.
The movie's teaser cleverly misled viewers by suggesting more NYC action than it delivered, leading to jokes that Jason was in Manhattan more in the trailer than in the movie.
Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)
The promotional material for Guardians of the Galaxy featured a hilarious scene where the space outlaws are arrested by the Nova Corps on Xander. Rhomann Dey delivers an iconic line: "They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy", and Denarian Saal replies, "What a bunch of a-holes."
However, this epic one-liner dialogue, along with the entire line-up of the Guardians, didn't make it into the final cut of the film, remaining in history as marketing material that introduced the greatest team of intergalactic mercenaries.
Spider-Man (2002)
The teaser for Tobey Maguire 's Spider-Man featured an intriguing bank robbery scene, with parts of the Twin Towers in the background. However, to the disappointment of many fans, this particular scene never made it into the final cut of the movie.
This omission was a result of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, which led the filmmakers to make sensitive adjustments to the content of the film to ensure that it was respectful and considerate in light of the real-life tragedy.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
A supposedly chilling line from James Cameron 's second installment of the cult classic Terminator, known for its spectacular action and iconic villain, the T-1000, never made it into the movie.
In the trailer, Sarah Connor asks the Terminator if the T-1000 can be destroyed, and he replies with a cold "Unknown," adding to the fear factor of the upcoming story.
