I Tried Marge’s Famous Pork Chops From The Simpsons: Here’s the Recipe & How I Rate It
So you can agree or disagree with Homer on whether Marge is the best cook in the world.
The most annoying part of being an adult is having to decide what to cook for dinner every night. Sure, there are plenty of food delivery services out there to help us out from time to time, but let's face it: it's just too expensive, and you can't live on takeout every night. Often, it's the homemade food that you really crave.
I myself am a huge fan of food in general, and I equally love eating out, spending money on takeout, and cooking from scratch. But I've been getting bored with everything I've cooked lately, so while I was rewatching The Simpsons, I had an idea: why not make one of Marge's homemade meals?
If you are as hardcore a fan of the show as I am, you probably remember that one of Homer's favorite foods, especially in the early seasons of the show, were pork chops. And I've decided to make them for my late-night dinner!
Ingredients
The recipe wasn’t that hard to find: Marge shares it at the beginning of episode 9 in season 2, so here are the ingredients you will need:
- 2 Pork Chops (because I will eat alone)
- Dash of rosemary
- Smidgen of thyme
- A pinch of marjoram
- Sprinkle of chervil
- Half a teaspoon of turmeric
- A whisper of MSG (I didn’t use it, tbh)
- Care (the secret ingredient)
- Applesauce (Homer’s favorite)
How to Cook Marge’s Pork Chops?
It turned out to be a pretty simple recipe. The first thing you do is mix all the spices together and get ready to give your pre-washed and paper towel-dried pork chops a nice massage.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and put your perfect slices of spicy pork on a baking sheet. There’s no need to add oil or anything else, just the meat.
Bake chops depending on how thick your meat slices are. My chops were quite thin, so I only baked them for 20 minutes or so.
Of course, I have spent all these 20 minutes next to my oven, waiting for the meat to be done, like any other sane person would do! And then finally… the sound of “done” was right there.
Oh! I almost forgot to add the main ingredient: applesauce! Homer mentioned several times that pork chops without it are not a worthy dinner. I decided to sprinkle mine with some dried basil, you can add whatever you want or nothing at all.
Was It Worth It?
Well, what can I say about this little experiment? Marge's world-famous pork chops were really delicious, but there's no way I would have turned them into a traditional Friday night meal.
Despite the fact that there are a lot of different spices, it seems like they all, mixed together, gave a kind of simple flavor to the meat, and what I love is when the flavor is rich in different little tastes.
But maybe I haven’t added enough of Marge’s secret ingredient. After all, she was making dinner for someone she loves with all her heart, and me… guess I need to learn to love myself a tiny bit more.
