Georgie’s complicated position in the family might be handled in a different way.

Young Sheldon ’s spinoff titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage keeps getting more and more updates ahead of its release in October, but the most awaited announcement turned out to be an unexpected disappointment for most of the potential viewers.

The future show’s creators have recently made it official that the beloved Cooper family will be back to the story, with Mary, Missy and Meemaw definitely returning and Sheldon possibly coming to visit on some special occasion.

So far there’s no saying about how frequent Young Sheldon’s characters will be on the screen, and I have all the reasons to believe they will just pop up every so often without intervening Georgie and Mandy ’s life that much, but others don’t seem to be fine with such an option — and I honestly don’t get why.

It didn’t take long for Young Sheldon’s fans to take to social media lamenting over the casting update that suggests the characters won’t become a part of the lead cast.

Some fans were quite reasonable, bringing up something that The Big Bang Theory once revealed, and reminding everyone that in the original show’s season 11 Jerry O'Connell’s adult Georgie chided his younger brother for not caring that much about his family’s well-being after George Sr.’s death.

Back then, the episode hinted at Georgie’s discouraging position since, despite his very young age, he had to provide for both of his families after Mary was left with no real income and Sheldon left for California living his best life and studying at CalTech.

Considering that in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Mary, Missy and Meemaw aren’t supposed to have as much screen time as Georgie or Mandy, for some it remains unclear how exactly Georgie is about to handle Mary’s financial situation if she doesn’t even visit him that much.

On Reddit, a fan claimed that giving Mary and Missy a limited number of appearances “doesn’t make sense because 20 years later adult Georgie tells Sheldon how hard it was to take care of everybody after their dad died. If it’s still bothering him, it was important in his life. And the new show looks like it will skip over or ignore the grief period they all experience.”

Well, the comment does have a point regarding Georgie’s reunion with his first family after losing their patriarch, but the whole issue with money can be easily resolved.

Since both George and Mandy are living in the latter’s family house by the time Young Sheldon wraps the story up, they are still likely to move to the Coopers’ house now that Sheldon’s room is free for them to use, which actually makes everything about Georgie’s financial help to Mary pretty logical.

If that’s not the case (though I do hope that Georgie will not be able to deal with the McAllisters anymore and will ultimately move back to his family house), he can still provide his mother and sister with emotional and financial support even without being by their side around the clock.

We can’t know right now what the upcoming show’s creators have in their mind regarding this matter, but I’m pretty sure that another plot hole doesn’t have that many chances to come around anyway.
