Hugh Jackman Returning as Wolverine Cheapens Logan Ending
Hear the fans out.
The bombshell news about Hugh Jackman returning in Deadpool 3 to play his iconic clawed superhero one more time has truly made waves on the Internet over the past several hours. However, while some are celebrating, others are genuinely sad about Wolverine coming back — and here's why.
According to some fans, a Hugh Jackman comeback, while nostalgic and long-awaited, would "cheapen" the ending Wolverine received in Logan — the iconic movie that came out in 2017 and wrapped up his story in a beautiful and a heart-breaking way.
Even though there is a big chance that Jackman's Wolverine is going to be a variant, and not a resurrected Logan, fans are not quite okay with that explanation.
"Still ruins the emotional weight of Logan. "Wow what, a sad ending. Oh well let's go watch another variant in Deadpool 3! Hey maybe if that variant dies in that film too, will see another variant again," as one of Logan fans put it on Twitter.
It is still unclear in what capacity Jackman returns, however. But there are people who would have actually preferred the character to be recast.
"LOGAN ended Hugh Jackman's portrayal of this character perfectly, would have liked someone new to take on the role and put their own spin on it." – @Philip_Sanzo
Social media is already flooded with theories suggesting various ways for Jackman's Wolverine to return in the MCU. Some people already believe that he is going to be wearing a comic-accurate black and yellow suit — which might actually happen in the movie.
Technically, Wolverine and Deadpool did already meet in X-Men Origins, where Jackman's Logan crossed swords with Wade — or, to be precise, the version of Wade with his mouth sewn. This little character detail was addressed by Ryan Reynolds when he announced the return of Hugh Jackman in Deadpool 3 on Wednesday, releasing a video that he captured with "Hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one."
Set to become a part of Phase 5 of the MCU, Deadpool 3 is scheduled to premiere on September 6, 2024.
