Now that Monkey D. Luffy's journey on Netflix has just started, here's what the series creator has to say about its end.

One Piece is currently full steam ahead on Netflix, with the network quickly announcing the second season for the immensely-popular live-action adaptation of the iconic anime and manga.

Now that we are officially in for a second season, it seems too soon to think that the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew to the legendary pirate treasure will end one day. However, it will; but fear not, as the series creator Eiichiro Oda seems to be fairly optimistic about the upcoming finale.

As the manga nears its ending, it would be fair to assume that it will stick to the heartbreaking tradition of killing off a fan favorite character — or even the main character! Still, Oda couldn't care less about this particular tradition.

According to a 2018 interview of Oda, cited by a One Piece fan account sandman_AP, the manga creator doesn't want to kill anybody.

"The reason I don't want to draw scenes where people die is because I want to draw a party after the battle. If someone dies, you can't have an enjoyable party. A party is my ideal form of friendship. I want to end with One Piece with a big party," the fan account cited Oda.

This can almost count as a confirmation that we won't have to cry our hearts out when the manga ends; however, it doesn't necessarily mean that all people who are dear to Luffy are safe.

And even if they survive in the manga, it doesn't mean that Netflix won't decide to take another route and stray from the source material as well. However, even if it does, it will inevitably have to run it by Oda, as he is overseeing the live-action adaptation and won't allow anything he disagrees with onto the screens.

While there is no premiere date for One Piece season 2 yet, the creators have already indicated that they have an extensive roadmap for several seasons. Good for them — and for us, since we will definitely need a new big thing as soon as Stranger Things bids adieu after season 5!
