How MCU Foreshadowed Black Panther 8 Years Before Its Release
Wakanda was promised a long time ago, but we failed to notice.
If you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you know how intertwined all the films are, and how many Easter eggs there are for fans to find each time a new movie premieres.
Some of them are easier to find on the fly, while others require you to re-watch the movie and pay more attention to detail.
And the rarest kind of them are the ones you don't even notice until years later when another movie premieres.
This was exactly the case with Black Panther, which premiered in 2018, but turns out to have been foreshadowed eight years earlier, in 2010's Iron Man 2.
At the end of Iron Man 2, Tony Stark is talking to Nick Fury, and in the background you can see several hotspots on the world map. One of them is Wakanda, the home of the Black Panther.
Of course, viewers were not allowed to learn or see anything more, as it was way too early for the franchise to start, but after the premiere more and more people started to notice it.
It's not surprising, considering that Marvel Studios has been claiming Black Panther as one of the characters to get his own movie since 2005.
This, combined with the fact that Mark Bailey was hired to work on the script for Black Panther as early as 2011, just shows how intentional it was to tease fans in 2010's Iron Man.
It's a shame that fans had to wait another 8 years to finally see Black Panther come to life, but every month of waiting was certainly worth it.
With a 96% fresh critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79% fresh audience score, the movie was a huge success. The international box office numbers of $859M is just further proof of it.
If you want to re-watch Black Panther along with its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, you can stream both movies on Disney Plus.
