Is it normal to remain friends after an ugly divorce? Well, maybe in a series...

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has a lot of storylines that grab the attention of fans from the very beginning. But there were a few that never seemed to let go of the true fans.

Yes, the main storyline of the show was Midge's journey to stardom, but it was actually her personal life that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

In the premiere episode we meet Miriam and Joel, husband and wife, who have two children and a great love story behind them. Midge is a devoted housewife and Joel... well, he was a complicated character at that time.

The thing is, he was stuck in a boring but money-making job and dreamed of becoming a famous comedian. The only thing keeping him from being one was that he didn't really have the "X Factor."

So one night, after getting crushed in a club after a gig Midge booked for him (with the help of her brisket), he decided that was it.

He left Midge with the excuse that he was tired of her perfection, but the real reason was that he was cheating on her with his secretary, Penny Pan.

Well, needless to say, Midge was devastated by the news. But somehow her anger and her inability to understand what was going on brought her to the stage. And so began her journey to stardom and becoming a comedienne.

And when Joel first found out, he was just devastated and humiliated by the fact that she was also talking about her failed marriage from the stage.

But over the course of the series, in season 3, 4, and finally in season 5, he became a completely different person.

"He went telling Midge at the season 2 premiere, that they couldn't be together if she were to talk about him. To tell her in the series finale that if she has to talk about him, then she should talk about him, and is nothing but proud of her," Redditor Oncer93 said.

In the scene in the last episode when Midge invited him on The Gordon Ford Show, he looked so genuinely happy for her. And that really highlighted how far he had come.

Well, as many fans have said, Joel was not the best husband, but he definitely became the best ex-husband.
