Although it is an important part of the plot, there is never any mention of it in the movies.

In the third Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie we meet Harry's godfather, Sirius Black. But the meeting takes place under unexpected circumstances: Sirius, in the form of a dog, drags Ron and his rat Scabbers into Shrieking Shack.

Everyone knows that Sirius escaped from Azkaban, but how exactly this happened has never been explained in the movies.

It is a common knowledge that the prisoners of Azkaban lose their minds over time. Sirius didn’t become one of the crazy because he was an Animagus.

Periodically, he would turn into a dog and the Dementors would lose interest in him for a while.

In this way, Sirius was able to maintain his sanity and not lose sight of his most important goal – revenge and justice.

One day, Sirius took the opportunity to jump through the open door of his cell in the form of a dog. Since Dementors are virtually unaware of animals, no alarm was immediately raised at the escape.

But how did he understand where to run and where to find the culprit?

After 12 years in prison, Black saw the Daily Prophet newspaper, which had a picture of the Weasley family winning a trip to Egypt on the front page.

Sirius was familiar with the rat in the picture, as it was missing a toe on its paw. This led him to suspect that Ron Weasley’s pet, was the same Peter Pettigrew who once betrayed Harry's parents and faked his own death, leaving only one finger.

This suggests why Sirius did not flee earlier. He was devastated by the events that had provoked Peter Pettigrew and did not know where to look for him.

But as soon as he got the newspaper with the photo in his hands, everything changed: he was obsessed with Hogwarts. It was this knowledge that became the impetus for Sirius to save himself.

Sirius even had a strange friend within the walls of Hogwarts when he first escaped from Azkaban. This friend helped him get into the castle and even into the Gryffindor room. This friend turned out to be Hermione's cat, Crookshanks.
