House of the Dragon’s Major Storyline Doesn’t Follow the Books, But Season 2 May Change It
There might be a traitor in Rhaenyra’s team.
Summary:
- Though House of the Dragon ’s season 1 seemingly secured its viewers in both sides’ balance of power, the upcoming second season may introduce new shocking plot twists that were featured in the original books.
- Fans can now have a lot of concern about House of the Velaryon’s head lord Corlys who has proved to have Rhaenyra’s back no matter what.
- George R.R. Martin’s books are pretty clear about Corlys’ priorities that may later on affect his position in the upcoming big battle.
House of the Dragon’s grand battle between the Blacks and the Greens is a month away from finally arriving on the screens and the whole tension may grow dramatically due to an unexpected shift among the teams’ members.
Though Season 1 showed quite a solid image of both sides’ allies, things can take a more serious turn should Game of Thrones ’ prequel decide to follow its original source.
So far House of the Dragon didn’t stick too much to George R.R. Martin’s book series and there can be a reason for it. The show’s upcoming sequel will let the fight for the ultimate power finally unfold with both sides getting protection and support from allies.
As the most rightful heir to the throne, Rhaenyra Targaryen is backed by the House of Velaryon with lord Corlys Velaryon in its head, but the latter’s beliefs can be very flexible once his priorities change.
Can Lord Corlys Really Betray Rhaenyra in Season 2?
Though lord Corlys’s actor Steve Toussaint has once again reassured everyone of his character’s loyalty to Rhaenyra at CCXP 2024 recently, George R.R. Martin’s books prove that lord Corlys has in fact had some reasons to switch to the Greens’ side.
Being an experienced sea sailor that later on brought his family to the immense wealth and influence in Westeros, Corlys is ready to put everything at stake to place the Velaryon name on the list of the most powerful families.
Having set his son Laenor’s marriage with Rhaenyra, Corlys seemingly cemented his family’s undeniable status as one of his grandsons is destined to become the King of Westeros.
Despite all that, he’s quick to pledge his loyalty to the Greens after his relationships with Rhaenyra aggravate as she’s perspicacious enough to suspect some of her allies of a possible treason. On top of that, Corlys’ wife Rhaenys dedicated most of her time averting her stormy husband from giving up on Rhaenyra for the Greens’ tempting offers.
Spoiler alert: once Rhaenys is killed during the Battle at Rook's Rest, Corlys is left with no moral compass to guide him through the Targaryens’ clash to later on secure his family’s stable future.
With the lord’s adamant convictions and the Greens having a lot to offer him, House of the Dragon’s season 2 is getting yet another possible plot twist that may completely change the game rules.
