House of the Dragon: Will Daeron Targaryen Appear in Season 2?
The most anticipated Targaryen in the show has only been mentioned a few times.
Perhaps the most obvious distinction between House of the Dragon and its mother show is the sheer number of angry silver-haired people zooming around acting all arrogant. With House Targaryen in its prime before Dance of the Dragons, there are arguably one too many active members of it, all with their own agenda — but while we’ve already seen most of them, there are still some who haven’t joined the show.
Every book fan is eagerly anticipating his arrival: when will Daeron Targaryen appear on the screen for the first time?
Who Is Daeron & Why Is He Important?
Long story short, Daeron is the fourth and youngest child of King Viserys I Targaryen and his second wife Queen Alicent Hightower. Unlike the rest of their children, Daeron has managed to stay away from the brewing civil war so far thanks to his being a ward of House Hightower and remaining in Oldtown — but this won’t last for long as his mother needs his support.
According to Gwayne Hightower’s description of Daeron, he grew up to become a “stalwart, clever, and kind” young man who’s great with a lute and a sword alike and is fancied by many ladies his age. Daeron has seemingly been having a much more relaxed life in Oldtown, allowing him to become his own man, not entangled in King’s Landing’s intrigues and power struggles.
When & How Will Daeron Join HotD?
With many fans eagerly anticipating Daeron Targaryen’s arrival, there have been surprisingly few mentions of him until recently. In Season 1, Daemon indirectly addressed Daeron’s existence by counting four dragons for Team Green — but in Season 2, Daeron has been specifically mentioned as the Greens decided to summon him from Oldtown to join them in the upcoming war.
Daeron and his dragon Tessarion are quite a power duo, and we’re expecting to see their arrival either in the final episode of Season 2 or in the premiere episode of Season 3 as they make an epic entry. After all, Daeron and Tessarion (who’s a really small dragon, mind you!) will almost manage to single-handedly defeat the Blacks, which is quite an achievement. They deserve that epic entry more than anyone.
