House of the Dragon S2 Just Premiered, but This Game of Thrones Star Won’t Be Watching
It’s still worth giving it a try.
It is safe to say that, among few other titles, House of the Dragon Season 2 was one of the most anticipated TV premieres of 2024. Produced and aired by HBO, the Game of Thrones sequel stole the hearts of many viewers around the world, healing those scarred by the hectic finale of the original series.
However, the story of the Targaryen rise and fall isn't for everyone. Those who root for the Starks, for example, would rather see a spinoff dedicated to that family's history. And even the Game of Thrones actors aren't too keen on tuning in.
Emilia Clarke About House of the Dragon
While House of the Dragon fandom doesn't expect the show to be universally beloved, given the amount of violence and fantasy, it wouldn't be surprising to see fellow Targaryen Emilia Clarke look at the history behind her character's predecessors, which led to Daenerys' tragic life.
However, the actress doesn’t rush to watch the season 2 premiere with the rest of fans.
“I still can't, I just don't know what it is. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd, I think. I really do fully support the entire thing and everyone who's made it, and it's beautiful how successful it's been. It's absolutely amazing,” Clarke said to People.
While this may be a bit upsetting for fans who have spent years trying to headcanon the way Daenerys will be affected by her family's history in detail, the actress' reluctance to watch the show makes a lot of sense. After starring in Game of Thrones for so many years, it must be surreal to see the same locations and white wigs in a completely different story.
Perhaps in time, Emilia Clarke will find the courage to watch the show in its entirety and share her thoughts on how the Targaryen Civil War led to the development of her character. For now, though, viewers will have to make do with their own theories and guesses.
House of the Dragon has already aired its first episode on HBO and has established a strong start to a dynamic season.
