The war may be over for the Greens’ strongest player sooner than everyone expects.

After a whole week of keeping its fans desperate to see how things will turn out for the Greens after their heir’s brutal murder, House of the Dragon is back with more major plot twists and deaths, but one of them is yet to come in one of the following episodes.

Throughout its run, the show proved that George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, upon which House of the Dragon is based, wasn’t really the source to stick to that much. However, this time Game of Thrones ’ prequel has all chances to get prepared for yet another funeral since it’s what the second episode’s major plot twist may have hinted at.

House of the Dragon Season 2 major spoilers ahead!

The brand new installment’s second episode shows the Greens mourning young Prince Jaehaerys after he was beheaded by Blood and Cheese, a duo of assassins hired by Daemon Targaryen to initially kill Aemond.

Nothing went according to plan, yet Blood and Cheese’s mistake turned out to be an even worse crisis for Aegon II who, getting zero support from his grandfather and Hand of the King Otto Hightower, dismisses the latter and offers his position to Ser Criston Cole.

Otto, in his turn, takes this as a sign of his uselessness at the King’s court and thus leaves the castle for Oldtown at the end of the episode. Though nothing less about his further actions has been teased yet, George R.R. Martin’s book lovers may already have an answer to the most common question by now.

Despite House of the Dragon’s Otto being reassured in his decision to leave for Oldtown to eventually see how things were going for Alicent and Viserys’ youngest son Daeron who for some reason has been living outside the castle for a while, the book’s Otto doesn’t appear to be willing for such a radical change in his life.

Instead, he has no intention of leaving King’s Landing after being deprived of his duties, yet he still has not so much time spent during this specific kind of retirement. Eventually, Otto gets killed for treason when Rhaenyra takes King’s Landing over, another major event that may be approaching in the second season’s next episodes.

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 3 will land on Max on June 30.
