‘House of the Dragon’ Premiere Date Revealed by HBO
The long-awaited 'Game of Thrones' prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ comes to HBO on August 21.
The network announced the date of the long-awaited prequel series with the help of the poster with a dragon guarding its egg and the date 08.21.
Reaction to the news was not be long in coming:
The ten-episode prequel series is set roughly 200 years before the events unfolding in ‘Game of Thrones ’ and depicts how the House of Targaryen fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons — presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling family of Westeros. The series stars Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen.
The series was created by author George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal, based on Martin’s novel ‘Fire & Blood’. Condal and director Miguel Sapochnik are executive producers and co-showrunners on the series.
“I think we were very respectful of what the original show is”, said Sapochnik. “It wasn’t broken, so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. ‘House of the Dragon ’ has its own tone that will evolve and emerge over the course of the show. But first, it’s very important to pay respects and homage to the original series, which was pretty groundbreaking”.
