House of the Dragon May Reveal the Tragic Fate of a Missing Game of Thrones House
And the upcoming second season may give more hints about it.
Summary:
- House of the Dragon recounts the events that had happened long before those that took place in Game of Thrones and also features one more significant House that never got to be present in the original show.
- Though the House doesn’t belong to the Dragonlord’s family, it still shares the same roots with the Targaryens and has an enormous influence on the whole Westeros thanks to its endless wealth.
- The war between the Targaryens that will sweep the plot of the upcoming second season may be the reason for the House’s eventual decline of ascendancy.
As Game of Thrones came to its end back in 2019, it’s the show’s prequel that takes the reins. While House of the Dragon recounts the story of Westeros’s most powerful houses in their fight for ultimate power, one house in particular may draw the attention of those who have followed the original show as well — and, judging by Game of Thrones’s plot, this house’s fate isn’t that enviable.
House of the Dragon’s season 2 will bring to the screens one of the most epic battles of George R.R. Martin’s whole universe as the Dance of the Dragons is about to start.
While the first season’s finale clearly showed the Dragonlord’s family division, the side of Rhaenyra Targaryen seems to possess at least one powerful ally — the House Velaryon.
The Velaryons are introduced for the first time in House of the Dragon’s first season as they appear to be quite close to the Princess of Dragonstone in all the occurring events.
Despite not really belonging to the Dragonlord’s family, the House Velaryon in fact shares the same Valyrian roots with the house Targaryen — moreover, the former’s ones may even go deeper into the history than the Targaryens’.
Still not being able to stay at the court as a part of the reigning family, the Velaryons found a way to its endless fortune — seafaring.
Famous across the whole Westeros thanks to its naval strength, the House managed to enrich itself after Corlys Velaryon, the head of the House, the Lord of Driftmark and Master of the Tides, brought back home an incredible amount of treasures from his famous voyages – thus cementing his family’s status as one of the richest Houses in Westeros that couldn’t be inferior to the House Targaryen at almost any point.
Since the House of the Dragon’s season 2, which is set to be released this June, will capture the House Targaryen’s fiercest battle that will definitely weaken both parties regardless who the winner is, it may also show the House Velaryon’s consequent decline — and that will possibly result in the decrease of its influence all over Westeros.
Judging by George R.R. Martin’s books, this is most likely the reason why the House Velaryon never got to appear in Game of Thrones. Though it still existed, of course, but not in the same almighty position as during Rhaenyra Targaryen’s war with the other side of her family.
