Seriously, just think about it.

Warning: the following article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 9

The Targaryen civil war erupted because the House of the Dragon could not make up its mind on who is the rightful heir to King Viserys — Rhaenyra or Aegon. However, as new episodes arrive, fans grow more and more confident that the fight is pointless — mainly because even Aegon doesn't seem to want himself to be king.

In episode 9, Aegon was apparently hurt by his father Viserys never pronouncing him his heir and remaining on Rhaenyra's side. As noted by Aegon himself, Viserys had 20 years to do — and yet he never backtracked his initial decision.

This inconsistency inspired House of the Dragon fans to respond with memes.

With the Greens' heir himself not really eager to fight, fans wonder why would they fight at all — even though some appreciated the way Aegon's character has developed.

"Aegon is a more layered character than i first thought. He knows he doesn't deserve or belong on the Iron throne, he just sits on it now for Alicent. Also the guy got some serious daddy issues," Twitter fan DarkBlueWinter_ noted.

Some fans, however, believe that Aegon's unwillingness to rule might have made him a good king.

"As "advisors", a king who isn't interested in ruling is the best kind of king. No one still believes it's actually about "the good of the realm", do they?" Redditor H-K_47 argued.

Still, now that Aegon has known what it's like to be a king — because after all, Greens did manage to usurp the crown and proclaim him king. It seems that the taste of power is now to strong for Aegon to simply let it go, and the Dance of the Dragons is nigh.

The House of the Dragon finale is scheduled to hit HBO Max on Sunday, October 23.
