Luckily, nothing is confirmed yet.

Summary:

  • House of the Dragon is a Game of Thrones spin-off that explores the history behind House Targaryen.
  • The show's second season is set to premiere on June 16, and fans are already choosing which side to root for in the war.
  • Those who have read the book, however, are fuming over rumors of a key character being wiped out.

One of the most comforting things fans find about House of the Dragon is the fact that the show is based on a complete story by George R. R. Martin and shouldn't deviate too much from the original plot. It was the writers' bad decisions that made the ending of Game of Thrones so traumatic for so many people, and now they should've been much calmer.

However, as it was already obvious in season 1, the story behind House Targaryen has also been changed to fit another narrative pushed by the show. Alicent and Rhaenyra were made much closer in age, and Alicent ended up being the one who de facto led Team Green into the war by putting her son on the Iron Throne.

From the looks of it, the changes aren't over yet.

Who Is Going to Play Nettles in House of the Dragon?

While season 2 already adds quite a few characters to the show and viewers will meet some allies of both teams, not all key characters will make it according to the leaks. Since they can't be confirmed yet, fans have to be careful with their reactions, but many trust the source.

The X (formerly known as Twitter) account @WtDasoiaf leaked the backstory of a frame that appears in the official season 2 trailer. It shows Daemon and Laena's daughter Rhaena looking at something in fascination, and as the account suggests, she's looking at the sheep-eating dragon she's about to claim.

Those viewers who have read George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood know that this arc belongs to another character, Nettles. Despite being a commoner and having no Targaryen blood, she claimed the dragon and became one of Team Black's fiercest fighters alongside Daemon.

Though the nature of her relationship with Daemon was questionable, and many people believe that was the reason Nettles was cut from the story, the story could have gone on without any romantic involvement between them. The elimination of this character raises the question of creator bias.

“They are cutting the only canon black woman from the book, her being a commoner that claimed a dragon using her cleverness a not her "magical Targaryen blood" made her and her story so fascinating and now they've ruined it, for what? Can't have too many black people in one show?” user @Adasttreia said.

Unfortunately, there are no definite answers to any of the viewers' questions at this time. However, season 2 of House of the Dragon is only a month away, so be sure to tune in to the June 16 premiere on HBO to get your first look at the new cast.
