Game of Thrones’ reference is what makes fans see the show’s female leads in a completely different perspective.

House of the Dragon season 2 arrived several weeks ago with a firm purpose to have viewers divided on who deserves to win the upcoming full-scale war, but instead the show brought a plot twist that now changed things radically.

The second season’s episode 3 titled The Burning Mill shows Rhaenyra and Alicent’s first ever meeting since King Vyseris I’s death, though their conversation does nothing for potentially making peace and avoiding the bloody war. The scene in fact undermines both women’s positions in the long-standing feud.

Both Rhaenyra and Alicent have always appeared to be adamant about their decision to fight for the Iron Throne no matter what since this is what they considered themselves being worthy of. However, the episode reveals that their biggest incentive to proceed to the inevitable war is actually a prophecy made by Aegon the Conqueror years before.

Upon the third episode’s release last Sunday, fans were quick to rant about how weird Rhaenyra and Alicent’s main goals look now that they both proved themselves to be sticking to some weird prediction.

“I hate the stupid addition of the prophecy in the show. Not only does it justify Targaryen's invasion of Westeros but now entirely changes the Dance of the dragons war. If not for the prophecy, would Rhaenyra really give up the throne for peace even at the cost of her son? Can it not just be her ambition or her desire or her belief in her birthright?”, Redditor Icy_Major_4860 claimed.

Ironically, another female character with much less screen time than the Blacks and the Greens’ leaders was the only one to not disappoint after House of the Dragon’s controversial episode.

As many others in the same thread highlighted, Rhaenys Velaryon proved herself to be even more ambitious than Rhaenyra or Alicent by making it clear to her husband Lord Corlys that she wants their granddaughter Rhaena to inherit Driftmark, House Velaryon’s land.

Leaving Rhaenyra and Alicent’s ambiguous plans behind, fans joined the discussion expressing their love for “Queen Who Never Was” Rhaenys, portrayed by Eve Best, with one user stating that the character is “not backing down and being an equal to Corlys and pulling strings to put her children in positions that would further improve her standing”.

House of the Dragon is indeed paving the way for Rhaenys’s voice being heard amidst all the mess living in Dragonstone before the war, thus finally making her a valuable game player for the Blacks, yet her influence may still radically change the rules.

House of the Dragon’s new episode will be released on Max on July 7.
