Attention Narcos fans: you got work.

There is no doubt that people’s interest in crime drama shows doesn’t need to be rekindled, as these titles are always in high demand of the audience. If you’re a die-hard fan of such projects or have enjoyed this year’s Griselda and Sugar, we have some good news for you.

This summer, MGM+ are releasing their own take on the underworld, the Hotel Cocaine show. It has it all to entertain you: stunning landscapes, shady deals related to illegal substances and seductive criminals, of course.

What Is Hotel Cocaine About?

Set in the late 1970s, the series starts by introducing us to Roman Compte, a Cuban exile who takes charge of the Mutiny Hotel in Miami. The point is the place becomes the epicenter of the city’s cocaine scene (just like the title implies) that attracts the attention of all there.

You can find businessmen, politicians, models, pop stars and, of course, CIA and FBI agents hanging around the Mutiny. It is Compte who is forced to navigate the risky business, at the time ending up involved in the drug trade and its aftermath.

It may come as a shock, but the story behind this premise is taken from a true story, as Roman Compte was a real-life Cuban exile turned CIA asset. He worked as a fixer for the drug lords and a double agent for the authorities, while managing the hotel.

Why Should You Put Hotel Cocaine on Your Watchlist?

The show is brilliantly written, as it takes it all from the events it’s based on and makes a captivating storytelling of them. It blends action sequences, heist movie elements and, certainly, Breaking Bad and Narcos-like crime showdowns and intrigues.

Speaking of the themes it raises, there are speculations on the cruelty of the drug trafficking world, the reasonability of having the American Dream and what it takes to fulfill it.

Nevertheless, it is the show’s cast who makes it worth watching. Hotel Cocaine stars Law & Order: SVU’s Danny Pino and Mark Feuerstein, Michael Chiklis (Gotham), Yul Vazquez (Severance ) and Laura Gordon (Late Night with the Devil).

How Many Episodes Are There in Hotel Cocaine?

The first season of the show contains 8 episodes, with each of them dropping weekly on MGM+. You can check out this must-see crime drama on Prime, as six episodes of Hotel Cocaine are already out and available for watching with an MGM+ subscription.
