HotD Better Not Fall Into Game of Thrones Trap With Aegon in Season 2
We speak for everyone when we say we really don't need another Joffrey.
Game of Thrones had a character who was really impossible to love: Joffrey Baratheon portrayed by Jake Gleeson. Now that the universe continues in the prequel, House of the Dragon, some fans believe that HBO is on track to turn King Aegon II into a version of Joffrey... or someone even worse.
While some people are eager to see whether Aegon can even challenge this level of atrocity, others beg for House of the Dragon showrunners to pick some other path for the Green king.
First of all, fans believe that Aegon simply doesn't have what it takes to become "the next Joffrey" — and this is a compliment, albeit a questionable one.
"Like Aegon isn't a good person, but he is nowhere near the worst character in Westrosi history/universe," Redditor Cherry_Bomb_127 said.
Others argue that House of the Dragon characters have to be their own thing instead of serving as "new [someone]" from Game of Thrones. With Aegon and Joffrey, the difference is too clear: while Joffrey was an outright insufferable villain, Aegon is simply supposed to be the king of Greens, with the show not taking any sides.
Game of Thrones Made Infamous Coffee Cup Mistake Not Once But Twice
Some HotD fans are starting to get angry with people who expect Aegon to be the villain and not a nuanced grey character. The way fans are ready to defend Aegon does not necessarily mean that the Green king won't do any bad things in upcoming season 2; that would be too bold to suggest knowing that it's Dance of the Dragons we're talking about. However, it looks like making Aegon into "new Joffrey" will cause a riot in the fandom.
HBO is yet to announce the premiere date for House of the Dragon season 2, but the shooting is expected to kick off in March 2023.
