We know it’s trendy to hate on Ross Geller, but we have to talk about this character’s misdeeds.

Ross isn’t perfect, and he has done a lot of shady things over the years (including cheating on Rachel), but he was a victim once too and didn’t get the sympathy he deserved.

The series starts with Ross divorcing Carol because she is now a lesbian, but she is also pregnant with Ross’ kid. Susan, her gay lover, is in the picture too. Ross’ depressed state and general feelings toward Susan are played for laughs, but he’s actually not in the wrong here.

OK, we’ll say it: Susan Bunch is overrated (yes, we have the receipts).

Sure, Carol was the one who cheated on Ross, but she was confused about her sexuality, and that could be forgiven. Susan wasn’t – she was an out lesbian long before Carol, and she still chose to break up a marriage. That’s settled.

Remember when Ross, Susan, and Carol all went to the ultrasound and got into this huge fight about baby names? Honestly, we don’t know how Susan had the audacity to argue with the baby’s biological father about what the child’s name should be.

She and Carol hadn’t even been going out long enough to be that serious. Oh, and let’s not forget that Ross had already suffered: his marriage was in shambles, his ex-wife and her lover had no regard for his feelings, and now they weren’t even asking his opinion about his child.

If we were in Ross’ shoes, we would be even more pissed than he was!

On top of the name thing, Susan and Carol decided to give the baby Susan’s last name too (again, without consulting Ross!). Ross didn’t deserve all this coming his way. We just wanted to give the poor guy a hug.

Even his future trust issues kind of make sense with that storyline in mind… Your first wife turns out to be gay, cheats on you, and dumps you for a horrible woman who tries to replace you in your child’s life.

Wouldn’t you become more suspicious of people from that moment on? We’re not saying that Ross was right about the whole Rachel and Mark thing, but we get where he was coming from.
