Hope is Not Lost on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, Apparently
In the end, Obi-Wan Kenobi was only a middling success.
While its streaming numbers were big by comparison with other Disney+ series and at one time it even competed with such a viewership giant as Stranger Things, it lost that competition pretty badly, and its rivals within Disney+ were not exactly stellar examples of success.
Its reception by the viewers was not terrible, but neither it was great, with only 63% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. And given that it had always been promised to be a limited series, its story seemed to be over with the final episode.
Now, however, there are rumors and vague hints, which might indicate that making at least one more season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is contemplated.
More specifically, Disney Studios Awards recently released an interview with Ewan McGregor ( Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Hayden Christensen ( Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader), in which McGregor said some things, which might be seen as a hint of more seasons to come, if you squint hard enough:
"I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again, and I hope we get the chance to do it again."
He added more on the same theme: "In the old days, I would joke about, 'There must be a good story to tell between 'Episode III' and 'VI'.' But, it's true. I always felt that there was."
Finally McGregor admitted that he was "so happy to [play Kenobi] again." So it is practically certain that he would be on board with any attempt to revive the series.
Then again, all those statements are quite vague, and nothing more specific was said by anyone so far. McGregor might be hinting at the possibility of another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, or he might be talking about his possible appearance on the new Ahsoka series, which premieres this year, or about the rumored live-action continuation of the Rebels series. Or he might be just expressing his hopes, with nothing specific and solid behind them.
Furthermore, his character arc in Obi-Wan Kenobi was completed (opinions on its quality notwithstanding). There are possible options for another season, from adapting John Jackson Miller's novel Kenobi from the old Expanded Universe, to showing Obi-Wan watching over young Luke on Tatooine, while trying to avoid revealing himself as a Jedi, but so far these options remain purely theoretical.
