Homelander, Omni-Man, or Ikaris: Who Is the Best Superman Knock-Off?
Superman would return right back to Krypton if he met his counterparts.
The Boys ’ Homelander, Invincible ’s Omni-Man or Marvel’s Ikaris. If you are a fan of the superhero genre, you know what makes these guys so similar, they all share superpowers with Superman. Let’s decide which one of them holds the crown as the best knock-off (for whatever reason you need to know this).
We are going to compare the live-action (Homelander, Ikaris) and animated (Omni-Man) versions of these characters.
Homelander
Pros:
Homelander can fly and shoot lasers from his eyes, which are his signature moves (what a surprise). Homelander's patriotic suit is hard to forget and makes a strong statement.
Arguably the best thing about Homelander is that he, being part of The Boys universe, is a direct parody of Superman. The creators took a jab at all those classic Superman clichés and gave us this crazy dude instead. If you're into darker takes on superheroes, Homelander's your guy.
Cons:
This guy has some serious moral issues. He's basically a reflection of what could go horribly wrong if Superman had no moral compass. His narcissism knows no bounds. He is gross, violent and downright insane.
Ikaris
Pros:
Ikaris is thousands of years old, and his wisdom is unmatched. He is Eternal, and his lasers are yellow. That’s basically it.
Cons:
Judging by his appearance in Eternals, Ikaris is just boring. He can also come off as distant and cold at times, which can make him less relatable. Plus, he betrayed his team in the movie.
Omni-Man
Pros:
This menace from Invincible, despite his flaws, has moments where he tries to be a good father, which makes this character somewhat relatable. Plus, let's admit it, that mustache is iconic.
Cons:
Like Superman, Omni-Man hails from another world, which is bad because it makes the character less original, even though the idea behind the character is far from the one behind Superman.
Honestly, it's all subjective. But our winner is Homelander. We are not saying he is a better person than the other two, or that he is the strongest among them (he is arguably the weakest). Homelander really stands out when it comes to keeping us hooked with his wild and unpredictable personality.
Of course, there is a lot of contribution by Antony Starr, who portrayed Homelander, but it's also the way the character is written and developed that keeps fans glued to the screen.
