Harry Potter is a juggernaut of a franchise. Although Harry's story ended with the release of Deathly Hallows Part 2 way back in 2011 (that's over ten years ago), the film franchise is still discussed on forums all over the world.

From missing scenes to altered plotlines, these changes have left many fans feeling disappointed and even betrayed.

5 – The Quidditch World Cup in The Goblet Of Fire

In The Goblet of Fire book, a decent chunk of the initial chapters are made to build up the upcoming Quidditch world cup. It's an exciting moment for the readers as well as the characters themselves, who are avid fans of the sport.

Radcliffe's Favorite Harry Potter Film is So Not What You'd Expect

However, they take up only a small portion of the runtime in the movies. The entire event is essentially skipped, much to the dismay of the fans of the sport.

4 – Voldemort's Backstory

Voldemort is one of the most enigmatic bad guys to grace TV screens and libraries both. He is a complex villain, and the books thoroughly explore his past. We see him growing up as Tom Riddle and his mother's side of the family, the Gaunts.

This character depth is totally removed from the movies. This makes Voldemort feel one-dimensional and admittedly quite cliched. He is robbed of his character development, and movie-watchers miss out on the gory details about our favorite nose-less Slytherin.

3 – Ron's Character

Before the movies, Ronald Weasley was one of the most popular characters in the books. His wit, charm, and unflinching support for his friends made every one of us wish we had a Ron by our side.

The movies did him dirty quite a bit by simplifying his character and making him little more than comic relief. Most of the attention goes to Hermione. That's not a bad thing, but it shouldn't come at the expense of another great character.

2 – The Romance

The movies are heavily criticized for their depictions of teen romance. While it was never Twilight, the movie's romance scenes always felt contrived. In the books, relationships formed organically as characters became attached to one another.

In the movies, the chemistry was absent, leading to the leading couple of Ginny Weasley and Harry Potter feeling awkward whenever they share a screen. That's the last thing you want for your romance.

1 – The Burning of the Burrow in The Half-Blood Prince

We've saved the worst for last. The Burrow is more commonly known to fans as the Weasley family home. It appears time and time again, in both the books and the movies, becoming a core part of the franchise's identity.

In the movie, Bellatrix and Fenrir Greyback arrive and set the whole place on fire. This is shown to communicate to the audience that Harry is living on borrowed time. However, it serves no narrative purpose and instead creates plot holes. If death eaters can find Harry and burn down the Burrow… Why don't they outright grab him then and there?
