HIMYM Season 8 Positively Did the Impossible & You're Ready for This Talk
How I Met Your Mother Season 8 might have ended poorly, but the fact that it absolutely nailed the one thing no one expected it to get is worth admiration.
Summary:
- How I Met Your Mother took eight long seasons to finally reveal the much-hyped-up Mother.
- After such a long time, it was outstanding how they created such a loveable character as Tracy who lived up to everyone’s sky-high expectations.
- Unfortunately, this brilliant achievement was immediately followed by the showrunners killing off Tracy and infuriating millions of fans.
As its title implies, How I Met Your Mother is an incredibly long story about the main character, Ted, navigating his way through his young adulthood in search of love. Despite claiming to his kids that he was going to tell the story of meeting their mother, Ted definitely takes his sweet time to get to that part — and by the time he gets there, no one genuinely expects HIMYM to do it right. And yet, it did.
HIMYM S8 Nailed the Most Important Thing…
Ted taking eight whole seasons to get to the point where he met the Mother created several problems. For kids, it was that they grew up by that time. For the showrunners, it was that after so many years and seasons, the Mother was so hyped up that delivering a character that would live up to fans’ high expectations was nigh-impossible.
But they did it!
Tracy turned out to be the instantly loveable and special character that everyone just fell in love with immediately, from Ted to viewers back home. For eight seasons, we only had minimal details about the Mother and had no idea who she would be, but ultimately, the wait was so worth it. Nailing the one character the show was supposed to be about from the start so perfectly was one hell of an achievement.
…And That’s Why Everyone Hated the Finale
Tracy’s genuine, wholesome, and quirky personality left no one indifferent, and we applaud the HIMYM creators for making her character so memorable and unique. But in doing so and then opting for the most terrible ending they had in mind, they ruined the entire thing for many fans. It was like gifting someone their most coveted car and then crashing it into a wall in front of their eyes.
Introducing Tracy and making her Ted’s perfect woman was brilliant. Making everyone fall in love with her? Top-notch. But killing her and leaving us all speechless and with a bitter taste in our mouths immediately after getting us to finally know her better? That was dirty and disgusting, and this one decision ruined the monumental achievement of having Tracy live up to the eight-season-long hype-up.
Fortunately, the How I Met Your Mother’s Alternative Ending exists. We bet no fan ever opted for the “official” one on their consequent rewatches.
