Highlander, Twilight Zone & 5 More Cult Sci-Fi Shows to Watch for Free in December 2023
Of course, we all know what number one is…
The great thing about cult shows is that we can forgive so much of what we now judge TV for. These classic sci-fi series may have had wobbly sets and questionable visuals at times. But they’re still top-notch.
Here are 7 cult sci-fi shows you can watch for free this month:
7. Andromeda (2005 – 2005)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 52%
Watch for free on: Freevee, Pluto TV, Roku, Tubi, Vudu
In space, Captain Dylan Hunt of the Andromeda Ascendant and his loyal crew set out to restore the System Commonwealth and bring peace after years of civil war.
Critics generally agreed that while it wasn't a show to be taken too seriously, it was a bit of a guilty pleasure for most sci-fi fans. After being released to mixed reviews, it became more popular over time.
6. Babylon 5
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 69%
Watch for free on: Roku, Tubi
Set on Babylon 5, a space station set up as neutral ground after several interspecies wars, this show tackled the issues of the day through the lens of a space opera. It remains relevant today, and has a good pace to the storytelling that moves the plot along nicely.
The show has won two Emmy Awards and many other accolades.
5. The Twilight Zone ( 2002)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 73%
Watch for free on: Tubi
Forest Whittaker hosted and narrated this reboot of the popular '60s show. An anthology of sci-fi, horror and thriller, each hour-long episode featured two half-hour stories focusing on real-life issues.
Although its return was highly anticipated, the show only ran for one season.
4. Highlander (1998)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 80%
Watch for free on: Peacock, Vudu, Roku Tubi, Plex, Pluto TV, Freevee
This Canadian-French sci-fi drama was an international hit. The show follows the adventures of Duncan MacLeod, an antique shop owner who we soon learn is immortal, 400 years old and will only die if he's beheaded. He's part of the Gathering, an eternal battle in which all immortals must fight and kill each other until only one remains.
The series has been nominated for several major awards without ever winning.
3. Farscape (1999)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90%
Watch for free on: Crackle, Freevee, Tubi, Peacock, Pluto TV, PopcornFlix
A random group of space travellers, all trying to escape their military overlords, ironically called the Peacekeepers, come together on a ship that is an organic being. Despite their differences and quarrels, their main goal of avoiding capture is one they all share.
Starting off as a series of disparate episodes, the show gradually found its feet and adopted a more cohesive narrative. So don't be too quick to give up if it feels a little disjointed at first.
2. Quantum Leap (1989)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90%
Watch for free on: Roku
A true classic. This show follows the exploits of Dr Sam Beckett, who often finds himself involuntarily leaping through time and space. Wherever he ends up, he takes over a host body and sets out to right a historical wrong.
The show has won several Emmys and has stood the test of time.
1. Dr Who (1974 – 1981)

Tom Baker was the fourth incarnation of the most famous Time Lord in existence. Sporting his famous scarf, the jelly baby-loving Doctor is one of the most iconic iterations of a character that remains just as popular.
Battling Daleks, Cybermen and other alien creatures with his trademark wit, the late 70s Doctor is a must-see for all Whovians.
