Here’s Why Kevin Feige And The Russos Threaten To Quit While Filming ‘Captain America: Civil War’
When Captain America and Iron Man locked horns on screen, it was an emotional breakdown for many Marvel fans, with them being divided between their favorite heroes and engaging in heated debates. It turns out that it all could have never happen at all – due to an actual squabble within Marvel Studios.
Turns out producer Kevin Feige was at odds with Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter over the fate of ‘Captain America: Civil War ’, with even the Russo brothers threatening to quit if things did not go their way.
"This famously led to Civil War the movie actually leading to a civil war within Marvel," Russo said, cited by Deadline, "because there was a group in New York that was trying to impose a more traditional third act on the movie. My brother and I were going, 'We're not interested in making that film, so we're out the door if that's the direction you want to go. We're more compelled to make a story about these two that's more interesting, we think, and will lead to more interesting movies after this."
This ‘civil war’, however, was won by Feige: New York was distanced from the movie and the Russo brothers had the freedom to clash Steve Rogers and Tony Stark in the way they wanted, leaving the civil war for the screens only.
But just imagine ‘Civil War’ not being the movie we know it to be.
Released in 2016, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide, paving the way for the Infinity Saga to unfold on the screens.
