Here's Why Stranger Things' Eddie Munson is So Popular
There's no doubt about it, 'Stranger Things' season four was a dark and daring addition to the series.
The season brought back all of the audience's favorites, including Jim Hopper (David Harbour ), Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp ), Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), and, of course, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown ).
One interesting newcomer to the franchise for this season was Eddie Munson, played by British actor Joseph Quinn – and what a formidable addition that turned out to be. Here are all of the reasons why Eddie Munson has become a true fan favorite.
Excellent writing combined with excellent acting
Indeed, the character of Eddie Munson is incredibly complex. In the canteen, we see him portraying a rebel who is basking in how society views him as a non-conformist. Yet, we soon see him as a sensitive soul who can form a connection with someone who is completely out of his social circle.
Joseph Quinn's excellent portrayal of the character has truly shown how well this character is written. Maladroit Eddie isn't a scary, metalhead loudmouth, but rather another Hawkins kid who's terrified of the events unfolding – and it's Quinn who reveals all sides of the character's personality so well.
Just a misfit misunderstood
At the start of season four, we see Munson take a stand in the cafeteria to denounce the way general society is viewing Dungeons & Dragons amidst the 1986 Satanic Panic that's unfolding. He's simply another misfit amongst the rest of the Stranger Things characters that we've come to know and love.
For the audience, it's clear that Munson is a nerd like any other, but he quickly becomes the subject of a witch hunt after Crissy is brutally murdered in his company.
As the main suspect in Crissy's death, he's rescued from his hideout by the other main characters who remain on his side throughout. Though reluctant, he joins them in their attempts to defeat the real killer in the Upside Down.
Even cold-hearted types can appreciate Munson's situation as the events unfold. Maligned unfairly by the people of Hawkins, Eddie relies on the well-known characters of the series to look out for him and find the truth.
It's not easy to break into the tight-knit cast of such a successful series and be so well-loved. And to be killed off makes him all the more popular!
