Here's What 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Future Could Look Like If It Wasn't For Depp-Heard Legal Squabble
During the trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard Johnny Depp revealed that he would never return to the role of Jack Sparrow, especially after how the franchise sent him off. Things could have been different, though.
Turns out Johnny Depp was approached to co-write the 'Pirates of the Caribbean ' sixth and final film so that he would have a creative say in how his iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow, bids adieu. However, plans drastically changed after Depp's ex-wife, Amber Heard, went public with her domestic abuse allegations, effectively ruining his career.
Depp revealed the now-scrapped plans during his testimony in court streamed live by CBS News.
"My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye, as it were. A franchise can only last for so long, and there's a way to end a franchise like that. And I thought that the characters deserved… to end their franchise on a very good note. I planned on continuing until it was time to stop," Johnny shared.
He then admitted he felt deeply "betrayed" by the studio for believing he was "guilty until proven innocent" after all the years and effort Depp put into the iconic character of Jack Sparrow.
Needless to say, fans immediately felt the extent to which they were robbed of the Depp-written sixth 'Pirates' movie.
In the fifth movie 'Dead Man Tells No Tales', there was a set-up for Davy Jones returning – a move that prompted many fans to believe that there was a final stand-off between the Sea Devil and Captain Jack Sparrow coming at some point.
Now, with Depp being adamant in his intention not to return to the role, the fate of the 'Pirates' universe remains unclear, with some fans lowkey hoping that the rumored Margot Robbie sequel will at least honor its predecessors.
