Here's How 'Love and Thunder' is Connected to 'Thor: The Dark World'
The Jane Foster story seems to come together now.

It would seem that Taika Waititi 's new Thor movie has inadvertently connected to Alan Taylor's 'Thor: The Dark World' when it comes to… Natalie Portman 's character.
Let's start from the beginning here. Many fans have been wondering how Jane Foster ended up having cancer in 'Love and Thunder', given that she was okay in the last movie we saw her, 'The Dark World'. Well, it looks like there is a reasonable explanation for that aside from the idea that people just get cancer out of nowhere sometimes.
According to a fan theory posted on Reddit, Foster's diagnosis can be a result of her being exposed to Aether in 'The Dark World'. We got to learn that Aether was in fact an Infinity Stone – albeit in a slightly different form – which is incredibly dangerous for humans to contact.
In 'Avengers: Endgame', even Hulk got badly injured after snapping his fingers with the Infinity Stones, despite radiation being something that created him. Tony Stark also did not survive the snap.
It could have been enough for Jane to be exposed to just one Infinity Stone to get cancer because of the gamma radiation channeled by the Aether.
The fan theory sounds so reasonable that many fans are surprised that Taika Waititi decided not to highlight that in the movie, as 'Love and Thunder' does not explicitly break down the roots of Foster's disease. Some, however, offered a plausible, albeit somewhat critical, explanation:
"I can see them omitting a mention of it for the same reason the infinity stones were used for a gag in Loki: the Infinity Saga is done – now we are in the chaotic aftermath," as one of the fans mentioned on Reddit.
Natalie Portman has briefly returned to her iconic MCU role for 'Love and Thunder' after some nine years of absence, joining God of Thunder as Mighty Thor but sadly surrendering to her disease at the end of the movie.
'Thor: Love and Thunder' is currently in cinemas, having premiered on July 8.
