Here's How Long We'll Have to Wait for The Rings of Power Season 2
While The Rings of Power first season finale aired on October 14, the work on season two has already begun.
And just a few days later, Twitter user Sara.talib1 leaked photos and videos from the set at Hankley Common in the UK, the same spot The Sandman was filmed at. Now fans have a chance to peek at the filming location for the Rings of Power season 2 at the earliest stage of production.
To answer the question about the progress of season 2 production so far, the show's producer Lindsey Weber told Deadline, "These first few days are kind of a luxury for us because we're just beginning and the guys are still writing, you know, polishing the script for Season 2, so they're writing that. But if you wait a minute, we'll be scattered to the corners in editing rooms and different sets and different locations, different directors and filmmakers, and prep meetings and post meetings and all these things, and it's like you have to sort of be an octopus and have a tentacle everywhere at once."
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Patrick McKay notes that they expect to work on season 2 for "another couple years," which means fans will have to wait until late 2024 at least to see the premiere.
In another interview, McKay teases THR that the second season will change the experience of the first one.
"We hope that, as we get into season two, it makes people like season one even better because you're seeing it through a new prism."
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay also hint that Sauron will play a major role in the second season, and fans will get a backstory for the character.
"Season one opens with: Who is Galadriel? Where did she come from? What did she suffer? Why is she driven?" says Payne. "We're doing the same thing with Sauron in season two. We'll fill in all the missing pieces." "Sauron can now just be Sauron," adds McKay. "He's evil, but complexly evil. We felt like if we did that in season one, he'd overshadow everything else[…] We're really excited. Season two has a canonical story. There may well be viewers who are like, 'This is the story we were hoping to get in season one!' In season two, we're giving it to them."
The production of Rings of Power season 2 is just beginning, but producers have grand plans. In the meantime, fans can sit back, relax, rewatch season 1, and wait for more updates on season 2.
