Hemsworth's Thor Needs an Ending Waititi Wouldn't Be Able to Provide
In light of Chris Hemsworth's willingness to leave the MCU, fans have taken to Reddit to discuss how Thor's story should end and who would be the best choice to direct the final film in the franchise.
Recently, Chris Hemsworth stirred up the MCU fandom by revealing to Vanity Fair that Thor's next solo film should be his last and that Marvel should give him the death of a hero.
Thor is one of the three remaining members of the original Avengers team, along with Hulk and Hawkeye. His storyline in the MCU began back in 2011 with the first installment of the franchise, Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Since then, Thor has appeared in eight Marvel films, the most recent being 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, directed and co-written by Taika Waititi.

Although Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok reinvented the character and his storyline, resulting in a growing fan base, Love and Thunder received a mixed response from audiences and critics. Many criticized the film for inconsistencies in the script and overall tone. This left fans wanting a new direction away from Taika Waititi for the next installment.

Now, armed with the new knowledge that Thor's next appearance in the MCU may be his last, fans have taken to Reddit to discuss what finale would be most fitting for the God of Thunder and who would be their dream choice to helm the film.
"We need a more epic, mythic, and emotional ending for him than what I think Taika [Waititi] could provide. Personally, I would love to see a version of King Thor, but I don't have a clue who could direct it," the author of the thread u/FlayedMan345 wrote.
Some commenters agreed that Taika Waititi is better at comedy than drama, and suggested that the return of Kenneth Brannagh could give the final Thor movie the gravitas it deserves. On the other hand, there were fans who felt that with the right script, Waititi could totally pull it off. The biggest problem with Love and Thunder was that Waititi was one of the co-writers, fans say.
As for the ending of Thor's arc, fans had two opposing opinions. Some said Thor should go out like he does in the comics - in an epic battle. Others, however, pointed out that the writers could write out Thor without killing him off, but instead let him be the king he was always meant to be. Either way, before Thor leaves the MCU, fans want to see him reunited with Loki.
